The Oyo State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with the alleged hijacking and diversion of a truck, uncovering a syndicate suspected of stealing and hijacking vehicles in Oyo and Kwara states.

The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Vehicle and Cargo Recovery Unit (VCRU) following credible intelligence, according to the command.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

Ayanlade said the suspects allegedly specialised in hijacking, diverting and stealing vehicles, adding that their arrest was part of efforts to dismantle the criminal network.

He said operatives, acting on intelligence, intercepted a white Sino Howo truck and arrested two suspects identified as Ojedokun Olakunle Isaac, the motor boy attached to the truck driver, and his alleged accomplice, Ajuwon Ismail.

According to him, the truck had its back body, or bucket, removed and was being driven towards the Ogbomosho-Ilorin axis for onward delivery and sale to a suspected receiver.

He said information obtained from one of the suspects led operatives to two other alleged members of the syndicate, identified as Adekunle Sunday and Rasheed, who were subsequently arrested.

Ayanlade said efforts were ongoing to recover the truck’s detached back body and arrest other members of the syndicate who were still at large.

He assured residents and motorists that the command remained committed to dismantling criminal networks and strengthening security across the state.
