Four Bauchi water corporation staff die in dam operation

The Bauchi State Urban Water and Sewerage Corporation (BSUWSC) has announced plans to honour four of its workers who tragically lost their lives while carrying out maintenance duties at the Gubi Dam water treatment plant on Sunday.

Chairman of the Corporation’s Board, Alhaji Yayanuwa Zainabari, made this known while mourning the deceased, describing them as dedicated and committed individuals whose service was invaluable to the state.

The late workers: Shayibu Hamza, aged 48; Abdulmalik Yahya, 29; Jamilu Inusa, 29; and Ibrahim Musa died during a scheduled maintenance operation at the plant.

Zainabari expressed deep sorrow over the incident, which he said has left the corporation and the entire Bauchi community in mourning.

“The deceased were dedicated professionals who served the people of Bauchi State with unwavering commitment and dignity,” he said. “This heartbreaking loss is not only a personal tragedy for their loved ones, but also a significant loss to the water sector in the state.”

He added that their contributions to the improvement and sustainability of the state’s urban water system would always be remembered.

“As an institution, we are devastated by this incident. We stand in solidarity with the bereaved families and assure them of our full support during this incredibly difficult time. Plans are underway to honour their memory in a lasting and respectful manner,” he stated.

Zainabari further urged all staff across the corporation’s facilities to uphold the values of diligence and safety, noting that efforts were being made to review and strengthen safety protocols to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
