The Gombe State Government has set up a standing committee on the new national minimum wage.
Governor Muhammadu Yahaya disclosed this on Saturday in a statement signed by the Director-General of Press Affairs, Gombe Government House, Ismaila Misilli.
Yahaya made the disclosure following his courtesy call to Vice President Kashim Shettima, with the governor having questioned the viability of Gombe State paying the newly approved N70,000.
“Governor Muhammadu Yahaya has stated that the standing committee, headed by his deputy Manassah Jatau, is exploring ways to implement the new national minimum wage for workers,” Misilli said.
“Most states have set up committees; in Gombe, we have a standing committee headed by the Deputy Governor. They are working with the labour unions to ensure that we do the right thing.
“It is a law, but implementation normally involves consequential adjustment, and each state has to follow the process properly to get it right.”
