Group hails Olomu’s elevation to ACG as Apapa Customs earns N1.378trn in six months

The Nigerian Youth Union (NYU) has praised the Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service for generating N1.378 trillion in revenue during the first half of 2025, representing a 35 per cent increase from the N1.023 trillion collected in the same period in 2024.

The group also praised Babatunde Olomu on his promotion to Assistant Comptroller General of Customs (ACG), describing the move as a reward for loyalty, professionalism, and dedication to national service.

President of NYU, Comrade Haruna Zakariyau, in a statement on Thursday, noted that Olomu’s leadership at the Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has achieved unprecedented revenue milestones that earned him national recognition and praise from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to the Union, the Apapa Command under Olomu collected N1.378 trillion in the first half of 2025, a 35 per cent increase from the N1.023 trillion recorded during the same period in 2024.

Zakariyau further stated that the Command also generated N161 billion in just three weeks through the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), also known as B’Odogwu, while in August 2025 alone, it recorded N215 billion.

“These results are not accidental but the product of technical expertise, innovative strategies, and transparency that Comptroller Olomu pledged when he assumed office one year ago,” he said

Zakariyau credited Olomu’s insistence on preventing leakages, enforcing compliance, issuing demand notices, and adopting an open-door policy with restoring confidence in Nigeria’s port operations and contributing to economic growth.

He further praised Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for reforms that have repositioned the Service and created opportunities for such achievements.

“This is not just a victory for the Customs Service; it is a victory for Nigeria. It shows that with dedication, accountability, and loyalty, we can overcome long-standing challenges and reposition our nation for greatness,” he said.
