Group urges Oba Ewuare II to place curse on cultists, curb Edo killings
The Benin United Forum (BUF) has called on the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare II, to intervene in the escalating cult violence in Edo State by placing curses on youths involved in the brutal clashes.
This appeal was made in a statement signed by BUF President, Iyamu Osaro Culture, and Secretary-General, Osayuki-Osa Benson, following recent killings attributed to cult activities in the state.
BUF described the continuous cult violence, particularly in areas such as Upper Sakponba, Egor/Uwelu, Ugbowo/Uselu, and parts of GRA, as “barbaric” and a severe threat to the lives of Edo youths.
The group highlighted the impact of Oba Ewuare II’s previous intervention in combating human trafficking in Edo, where curses invoked by the Oba reportedly led to a marked reduction in the illegal practice.
“We humbly appeal to our revered Oba to direct Chief Priests (Ohens) across Benin Kingdom to place a curse on those hiding under cultism to harm others,” Iyamu stated.
BUF expressed hope that this intervention would discourage further violence and restore peace in affected areas.
