Lagos State yesterday witnessed two fire incidents, which occurred in quick succession and left houses, vehicles and goods worth millions of naira destroyed.

The first, which occurred at about 8:15 a.m., was recorded on the last floor of a three-storey building in the ever-busy Docemo Market, Ido Oluwo, Lagos Island.

The fire was, however, put out by the combined efforts of Ebute Elefun and Dolphin Fire Stations to the delight of the occupants.

The second incident happened at about 12:25 p.m., from a tanker supplying diesel to an adjoining hotel near Okokomaiko Police Station along Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Okokomaiko, Lagos.

The Guardian gathered that Ojo and Ijegun-Egba Fire Stations responded to the incident and saved occupants of the hotel and Police Station from the threat of the ensuing fire.

Confirming the incidents, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) attributed them to negligence as the former resulted from an electrical surge, while the latter occurred due to a safety infraction by the tanker operator, who did not allow for cool-off before transmitting engine power take off.

Fortunately, there was no record of injury and casualty as a timely intervention of firefighters saved the day.
