Following the violent attack in Kawel Community in Mushere District of Bokkos Local Council of Plateau State, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has deployed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 4 Headquarters, Makurdi, AIG Dankombo Morris, to the state.
Morris, who arrived at the place yesterday, is on a mission to assess the situation on the ground and put in place necessary measures to restore peace and prevent any further occurrences. Accompanied by the management team of the Plateau State Police Command, he held talks with the Bokkos council leadership, including traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders.
Welcoming the police team during the meeting, the Chairman of Bokkos Local Council, Amalau Amalau, commended the IGP’s swift intervention, describing the attack as a tragic and unfortunate act of unprovoked criminality.
Noting that the victims have already been buried, he appealed for the deployment of additional security assets and manpower to the council to complement the ongoing efforts of security agencies in securing lives and property in the area.
Also speaking, President of the Plateau State chapter of Women in Politics Initiative, Mrs Hajara Yunana, highlighted the plight of women in the given situations, while appealing to the police leadership to translate its assurances into concrete actions.
The women further called on the IGP to leverage modern policing technologies in strengthening security around the affected communities and other vulnerable areas within the council area, while urging the Bokkos women to remain resilient, calm, and confident in the capacity of the security agencies to bring the perpetrators of the heinous crime to justice.
Morris condemned the attack as inhumane, assuring that the police leadership will not relent until the perpetrators are apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law. He disclosed that the IGP has deployed additional manpower and operational assets, including units of PMF/Tactical Team personnel, to the affected area to strengthen security presence, restore confidence, protect vulnerable communities, and prevent any further occurrence.
He called on the community leaders, youth groups and residents to remain calm, and continue supporting security agencies with useful, timely and accurate information that will assist in ongoing efforts to maintain peace and bring the perpetrators to justice.
