Two people in Jos, the Plateau State capital, were reportedly killed over the weekend, one by the deceased’s son and the other by unknown motorcycle snatchers.
On Saturday, at about 1:00 pm, Mr Dyelman Yakse was brutally murdered at his residence in Pankshin town, Pankshin Local Government Area of the state, by his own son.
The deceased was the Registrar of the Federal College of Education in Pankshin, now the Federal University of Education, Pankshin. His tenure as Registrar ended in 2019.
Born in Panyam district of Mangu Local Government, the deceased was resting in his house when a young man, later identified as his son, entered with a sharp knife and slaughtered him.
“He stabbed him with the knife several times until he died,” a competent source, who is a close neighbour, revealed.
According to the informant, security agents were alerted and came to the house.
He said, “After preliminary investigation, they arrested his son in Pankshin and brought him to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Jos for further investigation.”
The deceased had two wives who have been thrown into mourning, as they believe this type of murder had never happened in the history of their family.
The two wives had children with the deceased, and the family was reportedly living happily together. The deceased was buried yesterday in Panyam after a funeral service.
In another incident, an unidentified commercial motorcycle rider died at Our Lady of Apostles (OLA) Hospital in Jos on Saturday at 11:30 pm, following injuries he sustained when bike thieves snatched his motorcycle near Katako Bridge, close to Shagari Corner in Jos North.
Residents of the area told journalists that they heard a struggle but, by the time they arrived to intervene, the assailants had fled with the motorcycle, leaving the injured victim behind.
According to the OLA Hospital management, the Chief of the area, the Mai Angwa, took the injured bike rider to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The Chief reportedly paid the deceased’s medical bill.
“Apart from the N7,000 found in the deceased’s pocket, no means of identification could be found on him. Presently, he is in the mortuary with no way of identifying him,” the Mai Angwa stated.
The police have said that they are investigating the matter.
