Large parts of Kaduna South have been plunged into darkness following the collapse of a major power transmission line, with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) attributing the incident to a combination of severe weather and vandalism.
According to TCN spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, the collapse occurred at Tower Number 7 along the Kaduna Town Lines One and Two in the Rigasa area of Igabi Local Government after a heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds.

She disclosed that when engineers inspected the site, they found that vandals had removed vital structural members of the tower, leaving it vulnerable.
“The tower collapse caused a cut in the transmission of bulk power to some Kaduna Electric distribution load centres, particularly the ones through which they supply some parts of Kaduna South,” Mbah said in a statement.
She added: “While inspecting the site of the incident, however, TCN’s linemen discovered that vandals had carted away some of the tower members, making it susceptible to collapse.”
The outage has disrupted bulk power supply to thousands of households and businesses in the affected areas. To ease the impact, TCN advised Kaduna Electric to link its 33kV Mogadishu feeder with the 33kV Abakwa feeder.
“This will enable electricity customers in Mogadishu to have access to power supply,” Mbah explained.
However, TCN noted that not all parts of the state capital were affected. Areas such as Kinkinau, Yan Tukwane, Kabala West, Unguwan Muazu, and Kaduna North remain connected to the grid.
The company confirmed that a team of engineers has already been deployed to clear the wreckage and begin the process of re-erecting the damaged tower.
