Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq celebrated the rising financial literacy among Kwara State’s youth as Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Gaa Akanbi emerged the overall champion at the Kwara State Tax Club Quiz Competition 2024.

The winning school received a cash prize of N2.5 million and a trophy, while its representatives were awarded N400,000 each, recognising their impressive display of knowledge in finance and taxation.

Governor Abdulrazaq praised the competition’s expanding reach, emphasising its vital role in enhancing young Nigerians’ understanding of taxation and socioeconomic development.

Out of 154 public and private secondary schools that participated in the competition, six schools reached the final round, showcasing their acumen in a contest that included topics on taxation, finance, and economic growth.

GDSS Gaa Akanbi claimed first place, followed by Government Secondary School Lafiagi with N1.5 million as first runner-up, and Eucharistic Heart of Jesus Model College Asa Dam, winning N1 million as second runner-up. Teachers and students from other top-ranked schools also received cash rewards for their efforts.

Out of 154 public and private secondary schools that participated in the competition, six schools reached the final round.

Governor Abdulrazaq lauded the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) for integrating a Computer-Based Test (CBT) format for the competition’s preliminaries, enabling students to participate from their respective schools. This innovation aligns with the state’s broader objective of leveraging technology to enhance educational experiences and prepare students for modern ICT-driven examinations.

The Governor highlighted the competition as more than just an academic exercise; it is a platform to instil civic responsibility and foster a culture of transparency and accountability.

In attendance were esteemed dignitaries, including the Emir of Ilorin, represented by Balogun Alanamu Dr Abubakar Usman Jos, top government officials, traditional leaders, and educational representatives, underscoring the event’s importance to Kwara’s social and economic development.

Kwara’s Tax Club Quiz Competition illustrates a collaborative effort to inspire the next generation toward informed financial decision-making and responsible citizenship, setting the stage for a financially literate and forward-thinking society.
