The Labour Party in Ogun State has ramped up its preparations ahead of the November 16th local government elections, with high confidence in its ability to capture a significant number of seats.

Wale Kuku, a Labour Party leader and 2023 senatorial candidate, spoke on Thursday, underscoring the party’s readiness to challenge the established ruling party and win over communities across the state. He expressed confidence in the party’s appeal, pointing to the popularity Labour has built through years of grassroots programmes and transparent community engagement.

According to Kuku, the party has been active across Ogun communities, conducting door-to-door and “Family Gathering” meetings to connect with voters on issues that matter most. Through the New Generation Foundation, Kuku and his team have been implementing people-centred initiatives, with candidates from diverse backgrounds—academics, doctors, market leaders—offering experience and integrity.

“The people love the Labour Party,” he said. “We have spent the last eight weeks going from door to door and having community meetings which we tag Family Gathering. We’ve also been executing people-based programmes in the past two years through the New Generation Foundation. Our candidates are superior to other party candidates in form of qualifications, manifesto, achievements and integrity. We have doctors, academics, market women and more contesting as councillors.”

Kuku reassured supporters that the Labour Party is vigilant against any form of election manipulation.

“LP members are not typical politicians but ordinary Nigerians from all walks of life that have an undying passion for Nigeria. And despite the fact that the tendency for manipulation, we remain resolute and we are ready to protect our votes this time around. We have our strategies to counter every ugly plan that might be carried out by our opponents.”

On the plans of the Labour Party for the state, Kuku said, “We are taking Ogun state to the next level. Our mandate is beyond paying salaries and repairing roads; the LGA chairmen and councillors that the LP is bound to produce, would be partners in progress with the state government, notwithstanding the party, towards taking our dear state and communities to the Next level.

“Next level of governance with our community governance approach, next level in developing a modernised Economy powered by agriculture, entrepreneurship, technology, skills development, 21st century education, clean energy and more. We are promising a government built on compassion, love and care. A new Ogun is possible.”
