This followed recent complaints about the squad’s conduct.
The Guardian witnessed the squad maltreating motorists in the Jakande Gate area of Lagos last Thursday.
Ishola, who resumed as the 40th Lagos CP, promised to sustain security and safety in Lagos, warning officers and others in the state that no one was untouchable or above the law.
He took over from Adegoke Fayoade, who was recently promoted to Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Zone 2 Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos.
He spoke with The Guardian about his new role: “My first duty is to ensure traffic flow in Lagos State. It’s said that a city made for speed is made for efficiency, and Lagos will work more. When traffic flows, the incidence of ‘one-chance’ robbery will decrease. I am a manager of Police officers, and I assure you that my officers will have better conduct.
“I will ensure that officers do their jobs because I have done everything I will be asking them to do; I was a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in seven divisions in Lagos, and I know the turf and I know how to walk it. Mine is to provide efficient and trustworthy leadership to make sure that the Lagos State Police Command remains the best in Nigeria.”
When asked about the police-community relationship and Crack Squad’s activities in the state, he said: “The Police-Community relationship is the fulcrum of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s policing strategy; I can’t do it alone. My experience in Lagos has given me a plethora of people to call in case anything happens in any area, so community policing will be strengthened, enlarged, and made for the people.”
He added: “Regarding the unruly behaviour of the Crack Squad, I will address that.”
