The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has rescued a critically injured victim of a hit-and-run crash at Ojota, Lagos, after the unidentified driver allegedly fled the scene.
The incident occurred over the weekend on the main carriageway around Ketu inward Ojota, where the motorist reportedly struck the victim and abandoned him at the scene.

LASTMA officers who arrived at the scene found the victim lying in a pool of blood and suffering from multiple traumatic injuries, including severe fractures and a serious head injury.
The officers immediately secured the scene, controlled traffic and took steps to prevent further danger to the injured victim and other road users.

They subsequently contacted the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), whose medical personnel arrived to assess the victim.
The medical team reportedly expressed concern over the severity of the injuries and the need for specialised trauma care.

LASTMA officers remained at the scene to protect the victim while efforts were made to secure appropriate emergency medical intervention.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, condemned the alleged abandonment of the victim by the fleeing motorist, describing the act as irresponsible and unacceptable.

Bakare-Oki said motorists involved in crashes have a moral and legal responsibility to stop, assess the situation, contact emergency responders and, where possible, provide reasonable assistance to injured persons.
He said, “The decision by a motorist to flee the scene of a crash, particularly where another person has sustained life-threatening injuries, is deeply reprehensible and could have devastating consequences.”

The LASTMA boss commended the officers involved in the rescue operation for their courage and professionalism, noting that the agency’s responsibilities extend beyond traffic management to emergency response and the protection of lives at crash scenes.
He appealed to eyewitnesses and members of the public with credible information that could assist authorities in identifying the fleeing driver to make such information available to law enforcement agencies.

LASTMA also urged motorists to avoid excessive speeding, reckless driving and other dangerous practices that could endanger other road users.
The agency advised members of the public to promptly report road crashes and other emergencies by calling the LASTMA toll-free hotline 3367 or contacting the relevant emergency-response agencies, stressing that the preservation of human life should remain the priority at crash scenes.
