The Rivers State Police Command says it has rescued a woman identified as Loveth, who was allegedly abducted by armed men, and arrested a 35-year-old suspected member of the kidnapping gang.

The Command, in a statement issued by its Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, said the operation also led to the recovery of a mini bus, two locally made pistols, ammunition and other items suspected to be connected to the incident.

According to the police, the victim was abducted on September 2, 2026, while seated in front of her shop.

The Command said armed men reportedly approached her, fired shots into the air and subsequently forced her into a vehicle before driving away.

Following the incident, the Eleme Police Division commenced an intelligence-led operation to locate the victim and identify those responsible for the alleged abduction.

The police said operatives, acting on intelligence gathered during the investigation, eventually encountered the suspected kidnappers.

The police said the operation resulted in the successful rescue of Loveth and the arrest of one of the suspected gang members, identified as Victor Ini, 35, and a native of Akwa Ibom State.

The Command listed the items recovered during the operation as a silver-coloured mini Keke bus with registration number RBC 992 XE, Abuja, two locally made pistols, one live ammunition, a mobile phone, two identity cards, two black gowns and a vehicle number plate bearing registration number KRK 528 HG.

The police said efforts had been intensified to identify and apprehend other members of the group who may have been involved in the alleged kidnapping.

The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, said the Command remained committed to protecting lives and property and bringing those responsible for violent crimes to justice.

Adepoju also warned suspected criminal elements that the police would continue to deploy lawful means and available resources to tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.

The Commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant, particularly during the ember months, which the Command said could witness increased criminal activity.

He also appealed to members of the public to provide credible and timely information that could assist security agencies in preventing and responding to criminal activities.

The police advised residents to review their security practices and remain alert to possible threats.

The arrested suspect remains in police custody as investigation continues, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other persons allegedly connected with the incident.
