Man, 28, in court over alleged battery

The Police on Wednesday, arraigned a 28-year-old man, Jimoh Abdulramon, in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged battery of his wife.

The defendant, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of battery.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendant committed the offense on Feb. 14, in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant battered his spouse, Akintunde Taiwo, by inflicting severe injuries on her body.

Apata said that the defendant had an argument with his wife and in the process; he used a charger cord to beat her.

According to him, the offence contravened Section 20 of Ekiti State Gender Based Violence (Prohibition) Law, 2019.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr. Hassan Salawu, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

In addition, he must provide a mental medical fitness examination result from Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital in Ado-Ekiti.

She adjourned the case until March 17, for hearing.
