Manager arraigned over alleged theft of employer’s N2.7m

A Manager, Tolulope Ibidapo, 35, on Friday,  appeared before an Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N2.7 million belonging to his employer.
The defendant, who resides at No. 6, Somefun St., Ijeun Titun in Abeokuta, is standing trial on a three-count charge of fraud, stealing and converting his employer’s money to his personal use.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, Insp Lawrence  Olu-Balogun told the court that the defendant committed the offences between Jan. 6, 2023, and Sept. 20, 2024,  at Akuwa Global Company at the Madojutimi area in Abeokuta.
Olu-Balogun alleged that the defendant fraudulently stole and converted to his own use the sum of   N2.7 million property of one Mr. Babajide Okuwa.
He also said that the defendant stole a Lenovo Laptop valued at N300,000 and one multimedia player valued at N75,000, all valued at N375,000.
The prosecutor said that the defendant was employed as a manager of Akuwa Global Company by the complainant Okuwa.
He added that the complainant entrusted his drink business to the defendant when he was travelling out of the country, but the latter mismanaged the business
“Ibidapo sold all the assorted drinks and converted the money to his personal use without remitting the proceeds to the complainant.
“He also forged and altered figures in the record books, which he sent as daily reports to the complainant.
“The defendant was arrest when the complainant returned to Nigeria and visited the company, but found the store empty without goods,” he said.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened sections 390(9) and 383 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mr. B.O. Ilo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two  sureties in like sum.
He subsequently adjourned the case until Oct. 10 for hearing.
