The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Edo State Command, has uncovered and dismantled a major illicit drugs warehouse in Igbanke community, Orhionmwon Local Council of the state.

The State Commander of Narcotics, Dr Mitchell Ofoyeju, in a statement made available to journalists yesterday, noted that  a 37-year-old suspect, Roland Owie, was arrested, and  a massive consignment of Cannabis sativa was confiscated.

According to him, the operation resulted in the evacuation of 125 bags of dried weeds suspected to be skunk cannabis, with a total weight of 1,378kg.

Ofoyeju said the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence, noting that it underscored the agency’s unwavering commitment to drug supply suppression.

He emphasised that the bust was a critical victory in the ongoing war against substance abuse and illicit drug trade.

“This successful operation is a testament to our relentless pursuit of drug cartels and our strategic focus on supply suppression. The seizure of 1,378 kilogrammes of cannabis in one single operation unequivocally represents a significant dent in the distribution network of these harmful substances.

“The importance of intercepting such a large quantity is better appreciated against the backdrop that it cuts off drug supply from reaching our streets, schools and communities, thereby saving countless young people from the devastating scourge of addiction,” he said.

Ofoyeju further stated that drug supply suppression remains a cornerstone of the NDLEA’s strategy.

“While we continue our demand reduction efforts through advocacy and rehabilitation, cutting off the source is paramount. Every kilogramme seized disrupts the criminal economy, weakens trafficking syndicates, and makes our society safer.”

“This arrest and seizure sends a clear message to all drug barons that Edo State is not a haven for illicit activities. We have zero tolerance, and our intelligence and operational capabilities are robust,” he added.
