The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has launched its Stakeholder Engagement Forum, a new initiative designed to deepen collaboration, strengthen transparency, and enhance service delivery across Nigeria’s weather and climate sectors.
The forum, themed “Early Warnings: Raising Awareness on Climate Risks and Promoting Early Action,” marks a significant step in the agency’s efforts to build stronger ties with its wide network of stakeholders, ranging from government policymakers to industry operators and the general public.
The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NiMet and initiator of the forum, According to Mrs. Funke Adebayo-Arowojobe, said the platform is created to ensure the agency’s work resonates with stakeholders while addressing their evolving needs.
“This forum is an avenue to project NiMet, showcase our products, and connect more closely with stakeholders. It allows us to share our strategic plans, progress, and even challenges, while also learning what problems they want us to solve,” she said.
NiMet, which is tasked with collecting, analyzing, and disseminating weather and climate information, provides critical services that influence aviation, agriculture, education, and environmental management. Under the leadership of its Director-General/Chief Executive Officer, Professor Charles Anosike, the agency has undertaken reforms in the past two years, including modernizing forecasting equipment and improving staff welfare.
Mrs. Adebayo-Arowojobe stressed that the forum’s core goals are to improve client satisfaction, build trust, and foster inclusion through open and transparent communication. She noted that NiMet’s diverse stakeholders—including federal and state governments, aviation and agriculture users, policymakers, educators, and private sector players—require tailored engagement to maximize the impact of the agency’s services.
“We hope this initiative will reinforce NiMet’s value proposition, sustain patronage, and create shared successes with stakeholders,” she added. Beyond its current strengths in aviation, agriculture, hydrology, and environmental management, NiMet is looking to expand its footprint in marine, oil and gas, health, and construction sectors.
The Stakeholder Engagement Forum also aligns with the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development’s Strategic Plan 2024–2028, which prioritizes collaboration and resource optimization. The agency expressed gratitude to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Olorogun Festus Keyamo, SAN, CON, as well as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for their support under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
By creating an inclusive platform for dialogue, NiMet aims to strengthen its visibility both locally and internationally while delivering on its mandate to protect lives, support socio-economic development, and respond proactively to climate risks.
