The Yobe State Police Command has arrested nine suspects over alleged drug-related offences and robbery incidents in Fika and Damaturu local council of the state.
The command said the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and ensure public safety across the 17 local councils.
In a statement, spokesperson for the command, Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed that the police recorded significant breakthroughs in the fight against organised crime, youth hooliganism, drug trafficking and substance abuse.
“On May 29, 2026, at about 5:40 a.m., operatives attached to B Division, Damaturu, conducted a coordinated raid operation at Pompomari Kan Tudu, Damaturu. During the operation, two notorious suspected drug dealers were apprehended,” he stated.
The suspects were identified as Jibrin Mohammed, 30, and Kashim Kyari, 22, both residents of the Pompomari community in Damaturu.
According to Abdulkarim, exhibits recovered from the suspects included 26 sachets of Tramadol, 23 sachets of Diazepam and two wraps of Arizona cannabis.
Other items recovered included 34 wraps of local cannabis, four pieces of crystal methamphetamine, a dagger measuring 11 inches, a pair of scissors and cash amounting to N91,950.
He said the suspects and recovered exhibits were currently under investigation and would be prosecuted upon completion of investigations.
Similarly, on the same date at about 3:00 a.m., the Divisional Police Headquarters in Fika received a distress call that groups of youths had invaded Ngalda Market where they allegedly engaged in intimidation, public disturbance and robbery.
Following the report, patrol teams were mobilised to the scene, leading to the arrest of seven suspects.
Abdulkarim said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly pursued some teenage girls without provocation, causing panic among traders and residents.
“In the process, innocent traders fled the market while some goods were reportedly looted and vandalised using sticks and cutlasses,” he added.
The police spokesperson said investigations were ongoing to identify the masterminds behind the attack and apprehend other fleeing suspects linked to the incident.
Commissioner of Police, Usman Jibrin, reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for youth hooliganism, drug trafficking, substance abuse and other criminal activities.
He also directed officers and personnel of the command to remain professional and committed to maintaining peace and public safety across the state.
