The Ogun State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Remilekun Ekundayo, yesterday disclosed that the command arrested 210 suspects for offences including vandalism, fraud and illegal mining within the last 18 months.

Ekundayo made this known while addressing journalists during a familiarisation visit to the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, in Abeokuta, the state capital.

She revealed that the command also recovered more than N23 million for victims of fraud-related cases and resolved over 1,700 disputes through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) during the review period.

The state commandant stated that the command had sustained intelligence-led operations, successfully thwarting various criminal activities while protecting pipelines, railway tracks and power infrastructure across the state.

According to her, the achievements reflect the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and critical national assets.

Ekundayo also appealed for stronger collaboration with the media to enhance security awareness and promote public sensitisation across the state.

She explained that the visit was aimed at strengthening the relationship between the corps and the media, stressing that journalists play a critical role beyond news reporting by shaping public opinion, influencing societal attitudes and serving as a bridge between government agencies and the public.

“In matters of security, your role becomes even more strategic and impactful,” she said.

She added that the NSCDC is statutorily empowered to protect critical national assets and infrastructure, prevent vandalism and economic sabotage, and support disaster management and emergency response efforts.
