NSCDC intercepts truck with telecom masts, arrests illegal miners in Niger

The Niger State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intercepted a truck loaded with telecommunication masts worth several millions of naira and a Sharon vehicle transporting mining products.

State Commandant, Suberu Siyaka Aniviye, disclosed this while parading the suspects at the command headquarters in Minna.

He said the NSCDC anti-vandal team was deployed to the Tafa-Suleja axis following intelligence reports, where they arrested two suspects, Mustapha Aliyu and Abubakar Safyanu. The duo has been charged in court for prosecution.

In a separate operation, the command arrested seven male suspects engaged in illegal mining activities at Kataeregi along Bida Road. They were caught with a Sharon vehicle filled with mining products.

One of the suspects, Mahmoud Idris, from Zuzungi in Katcha Local Council, admitted to the crime.

Aniviye reiterated the corps’ commitment to tackling vandalism, illegal mining, and other crimes threatening the state’s economy and infrastructure.
