The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) yesterday rescued a 19-year-old undergraduate of Kogi State University, Ayungba, who was reportedly abducted by ritualists.

The victim, Fauziyah Muhammed, a 400-level English Education student, was said to have been hypnotised in Kogi State before being abandoned in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

According to the NSCDC Commandant in Kwara, Dr Umar Muhammed, the young woman was found wandering naked in the Ajegunle-Isale community along Egbejila Road in Ilorin. Residents of the area reportedly apprehended her and handed her over to NSCDC officer Afolayan, who sought assistance from the command.

Muhammed said Fauziyah appeared incoherent, suggesting she had endured traumatic experiences during her abduction. He said the command provided her with clothing and briefed Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq on her situation.

“Governor Abdulrazaq has promised to support us with fuel to facilitate her return to Kogi State tomorrow,” Muhammed said.

A suspected abductor
During interrogation, the victim revealed she could not recall how she ended up in Kwara but remembered losing consciousness after picking up a book she had dropped.

The command disclosed plans to release Fauziyah to her uncle, Mallam Salihu Aliu, who was delegated by the family to take custody of her.

In a related development, the NSCDC paraded a minor, Abu Usman Soja, who was allegedly an informant for kidnappers operating in the Ajase-Ipo area of the state.

Muhammed said the minor’s accomplice, now at large, had kidnapped a woman and her two children on November 7, 2024. The kidnappers initially demanded a N50 million ransom but later reduced it to N15 million. While the mother was released, the abductors remained at large with the children.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing kidnappers, the NSCDC stated.
