Residents of Imala community in Abeokuta North Local Council of Ogun State have decried the deplorable condition of the only road leading to their community, stressing that neglect by the previous administrations made the road impassable over the years.
The residents, mostly from Ward 14 of the council, expressed fear that the state of the road might worsen any time it rains.
They called on the Dapo Abiodun-led administration to urgently fix the road before it becomes totally impassable.
The coordinator of Imala Community Development, Steve Adetomiwa, stated that the road deteriorated to the point of death trap for travellers.
Adetomiwa noted that the road, originally constructed by the Premier of Southern Nigeria, Obafemi Awolowo, had not seen any government intervention.
He said: “On behalf of Imala Ward 14 community in Abeokuta North, we appreciate your two-term tenure as Governor of Ogun State and wish you continued success in your future endeavours.
“Imala, the headquarters of the former Western regional administration in Abeokuta North, hereby appeals for the reconstruction of the 7.5-kilometre road that runs across the township. Ward 14 voted massively for you in both governorship elections.”
According to the community, the governor’s intervention will bring the much-expected dividends of democracy to the people and create an opportunity for meaningful development within the constituency.
The added: “The road, originally constructed by Awolowo, is now in a deplorable condition, adversely affecting the growth of the community.
“Ifekayode, your Special Adviser, and Tella can attest that this request has been consistently raised, including during past campaign engagements. We will be grateful for your prompt intervention.”
