The Ogun State Police Command has foiled a robbery attempt in the Sagamu area of the state following a swift and coordinated intervention by operatives of Sakura Division in the state.
The state police image maker, Chief Superintendent of Police, Omolola Odutola, disclosed that the incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday, with a distress call received through the CDC Chairman of Okearedi, Araromi, off Sagamu–Ijebu Ode Expressway, that about five hoodlums were attempting to gain entry into a residence within the community forcefully.
She stated that a swift intervention was immediately coordinated by operatives of Sakura Division.
Odutola said, “On sighting the patrol team, the hoodlums fled in different directions, prompting a hot chase by the police. The suspects’ operational vehicle — a black Lexus GS 350 with registration number OGUN TTD 452 TT — was recovered at the entrance of the community.”
Odutola added that a search conducted on the vehicle led to the recovery of fireworks (knockouts) suspected of being used as a distraction tool during the operation.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the officers for the timely response and professionalism exhibited.
He reiterated that the command has strengthened its operational strategy by deploying personnel to identified flashpoints across the state as part of end-of-year security measures.
While assuring residents of sustained police visibility and proactive response, the CP urged members of the public to remain security-conscious, particularly when entering their homes or estates late at night.
He further hints that illuminating dark or isolated areas would help deter criminal elements who exploit such environments to perpetrate nefarious acts.
The Ogun State Police Command encouraged residents to follow its dedicated social media channels for verified updates and real-time security information.
In other news, the Ogun State Police Command has once again demonstrated its operational efficiency and commitment to public safety as a combined tactical team successfully rescued a kidnap victim unhurt in Onipanu area of the state.
The incident occurred on October 27, 2025, about 8.14pm, when five unidentified armed men invaded the compound of Baki Atoyebi and switched off the generator to lure the occupants outside.
Unaware of the danger, the victim and another resident came out to inspect what they thought was a mechanical fault, but were ambushed by the assailants, who subsequently abducted Atoyebi.
Confirming the development in a statement yesterday, spokesperson for the command, CSP Omolola Odutola, said the assailants also carted away a Point of Sale (PoS) machine, N900,000 cash, three mobile phones, a power bank and keys to Toyota Highlander and Corolla vehicles.
A few hours after the abduction, the kidnappers used the victim’s phone to contact the family, demanding N30 million ransom.
