Okpebholo dethrones three traditional rulers in Edo

The Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, on Wednesday approved the revocation of the appointment of three traditional rulers in the Edo North Senatorial District.

The three traditional rulers are the Aidenogie of South Ibie in Etsako West Local Government Area, HRH. Umoru Inusa Umoru, the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella in Etsako East Local Government Area, HRH Lukman Akemokue, and the Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom, Agenebode, in Etsako East Local Government Area, Dr. George Oshiapi Egabor.

The Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, in a statement, said the decision was reached after the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held on Wednesday.

According to Ikhilor, Umoru Inusa Umoru has been replaced by Aliyu Kelvin Danesi as the Aidenogie of South Ibie in Etsako West Local Government Area.

“The decision is premised on the fact that the stool was not at any time vacant prior to the appointment of Umoru Inusa Umoru,” Ikhilor said.

Ikhilor noted that the appointment of Lukman Akemokue as the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella in Etsako East Local Government Area of the state was also revoked, adding that modalities have been put in place to select a new Okpella.

According to the SSG, the appointment of Dr. George Oshiapi Egabor as the Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom, Agenebode, in Estako East Local Government Area of the State was also revoked by the SEC.

“A selection process has been set in motion for the selection of a new Ruler for the Kingdom in line with the Extant Laws of Edo State,” he added.

The SSG, however, urged “all subjects of the aforementioned localities/domains to remain calm as the State Government remains committed to ensuring the peace, unity, prosperity, and greater happiness of the good people of Edo State.”
