One dead as boat capsizes in Sokoto
One person has been declared dead in a boat accident which occurred in Sokoto State on Sunday.
The boat with more than 35 persons onboard capsized on River Rima along Dundaye Axis in Wamakko Local Government Area.
According to a post by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) on its X account, one dead body has so far been recovered while nearly 15 of the victims made it to the shore.
Head of Operations National Emergency Management Agency, Sokoto Operations Office, Aliyu Shehu Kafidangi, Special Adviser, Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency, Nasiru Garba and the Red Cross have already visited the scene to profile the data of the victims.

Some of the victims and rye witness account disclosed that the biat overturned due to overloading.
“The occupants of the boat comprising the elderly, women, children and youths were crossing the river to their farms,” the post read.
“NEMA search and rescue team as well as local divers are currently searching for the missing persons.”
