A farmer in Guda Village in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi, Usman Jibrin, 40 years old, has been killed following a clash that occurred between farmers and herders, while two others are receiving treatment for injuries from the conflict.
It was gathered that the locals discovered that a herder’s animals were grazing on their farms and decided to chase the cattle to their owners’ settlement. The clash degenerated into bloody violence when the villagers rushed to the herders’ settlement in the area with heated arguments that resulted in a skirmish, police authorities said.
In the process, three farmers reportedly sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment, where one of them was certified dead.
The Spokesperson of the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Nafiu Habib, said that four suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
According to him, on September 23, 2026, at about 7:40 pm, “three farmers from Guda Village went to their farms on Guda Hill and found cattle belonging to a herder grazing on and destroying their crops. They chased the cattle to the herders’ settlement where an argument ensued and degenerated into a fight. In the process, the three farmers sustained injuries. Sadly, in retaliation, some youths from Guda Village mobilised and set ablaze houses at the herders’ settlement.
“Operatives from the Ningi Division responded promptly, restored normalcy and evacuated the injured to General Hospital Ningi. Unfortunately, one of them, Usman Jibrin, 40 years old, later died while receiving treatment,” he said.
Nafiu said that the Command arrested the suspects on October 8, and they are facing offences of criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, mischief by fire, and culpable homicide.
