The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed banditry claims over the incident that occurred at a private dredging site in Magbon Etido, Mowe, resulting to the death of one soldier.
The Command also said that another soldier sustained injuries from the incident and currently receiving treatment at the hospital
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta yesterday.
Babaseyi said that the incident as an isolated criminal attack and not linked to banditry as being circulated on social media and speculated in some quarters.
He said based on the report, Police operatives, in collaboration with the Military, swiftly mobilized to the area and commenced coordinated operations to apprehend those responsible.
“Preliminary findings do not indicate any connection between the incident and banditry activities in Ogun State. Investigations and tactical operations remain ongoing.” The PRO noted
The Command, however, assured residents that the situation is under control, security presence has been reinforced, and there is no cause for alarm.
