The Owu kingdom has crowned Saka Matemilola as the new Olowu of Owu in Ogun State.

Matemilola was coronated on Monday as the 14th paramount ruler to ascend the throne after the demise of the late Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu who died on Sunday, December 12, 2021.

The new monarch’s emergence came after a selection among the seven candidates of the ruling houses in Owu and the completion of traditional rites.

Matemilola was born on August 4, 1964, and hails from a unit of the Otileta royal family in Soke Compound.

He holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ibadan. He also bagged a PhD degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.

Matemilola is a stakeholder in the petroleum Industry where he served as a Consultant for Reservoir Engineering at Shell Petroleum industry in Port-Harcourt from 2009 to 2011. He was involved in the establishment of the Centre of Excellence in Geosciences and Petroleum Engineering, at the University of Benin in 2011.

He sits on the board of Motus Technology Limited, City Roller Limited, and Cypher Crescent Limited. He belongs to the Nigeria Society of Engineers and is a Fellow of the Cambridge Philosophical Society.

Matemilola’s coronation is an eight-day program that already begins on Sunday, October 23, and will end with thanksgiving on Sunday, October 30 at Oba Odeleye Park.

The coronation will round off the event with a press conference and an appreciation evening with its officials at the Olowu palace.
