The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected drug peddlers and recovered eight parcels of weeds suspected to be Canadian Loud concealed inside a car tyre.

The command, in a statement issued by its Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, on Saturday, said the operation was part of its sustained intelligence-led efforts to disrupt criminal networks and prevent illicit drugs from fuelling criminal activities in the state.

According to the statement, the arrests followed actionable intelligence received by the command on September 2, 2026, about the activities of a suspected drug peddler at a vulcaniser’s shop, where suspected hard drugs were allegedly being concealed inside a car tyre.

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, subsequently directed the Officer in Charge of the Anti-Narcotics Section, through the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, to move to the location.

The police operatives, acting on the directive, proceeded to the shop and arrested two suspects.

The command said the operatives, with the assistance of the vulcaniser, recovered eight parcels of weeds suspected to be Canadian Loud concealed inside a car tyre.

A vulcanising machine allegedly used in concealing the substance was also recovered as an exhibit.

The statement added that preliminary interrogation of the suspects led to their confession to their respective involvement in the alleged offence.

It said the suspects were assisting the police with the ongoing investigation and would be charged to court upon its conclusion.

The command also said efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the alleged syndicate.

The police stressed that tackling drug trafficking remained an essential part of its broader efforts to combat crime and criminality in Oyo State.

It said the proliferation of illicit drugs could fuel violent and organised crimes by impairing judgment and creating conditions conducive to offences such as cultism, robbery and kidnapping.

The command urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information that could assist security agencies in making the state safer.
