The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed a tragic multiple motor and pedestrian accident that occurred at Soka Junction, along the Ibadan–Lagos Expressway, on April 4, 2026, at about 10:10 p.m.
The Command disclosed that two persons lost their lives in the incident, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The crash also involved multiple vehicles, including a Toyota Venza and a BMW car, which were severely damaged.
According to preliminary investigations, the accident was caused by a white HOWO truck with registration number Gombe GEM696XE, driven by one Abdullahi Bashiru. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed and reckless driving, ramming into other vehicles and unsuspecting pedestrians.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
The police assured the public that a comprehensive investigation has commenced to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash and to ensure that appropriate legal actions are taken.
The Command further urged motorists and other road users to exercise caution at all times, strictly obey traffic regulations, and avoid speeding, noting that such incidents are preventable.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the police called on residents to continue to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could aid in preventing similar tragedies.
