Kano State Police Command has arrested and detained Tasleem Baba Nabegu, the complainant of an allegation of adultery between his wife and Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwalu Danladi Sankara.

Nabegu’s arrest comes less than 24 hours after a Kano Upper Sharia Court, presided by Khadi Ibrahim Sarki Yola terminated the case of adultery filed against the commissioner.

The complainant who shortly after addressing a press conference to reject the verdict of the Sharia Court was picked by men of the command.

Confirming the development to The Guardian, Nabegu’s lawyer, Saidu Mohammed Tudun-Wada, disclosed that his client was arrested, handcuffed, and whisked away as soon as he (Nabegu) came out of his law firm.

According to him, the police hinted that Nabegu’s arrest followed a complaint received from his embattled wife who accused her husband of cyberstalking.

“Our client was arrested and detained by the police this after in from of my office. He just addressed the press and came out when he was accosted by the police, handcuffed and taken away to the state CID,” he said.

“The police said she formally lodged complain to the commissioner of police and the CP further directed the CID to invite him but he was rather arrested and handcuffed him sooner he left my office.

“The wife told the police that she didn’t know her husband managed to access her phone and obtained classified information from her WhatsApp and other private folders. She also claimed her husband stole pictures and other private information during the process.”

Meanwhile, Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa state has lifted the suspension on the embattled commissioner of Special Duties Auwalu Sankara.

The Secretary to the Government of the state, Bala Ibrahim, in a statement, announced the commissioner’s reinstatement following the judgment of the Kano Sharia Court that exonerated him.
