Police arrest illegal firearm dealer in Jigawa

Security operatives attached to Kazaure Divisional Police Headquarters in Jigawa State, acting on credible intelligence, have successfully apprehended one Abdulsamad Haruna ‘m’, age 30 years, of Dansure village via Gwiwa in Kazaure town.

A preliminary investigation suggests that an individual from Sabon Layi in Barikin Ladi, Plateau State, is involved in the illegal trade and distribution of arms, with potential links to criminal gangs operating within and beyond Jigawa State.

Upon his arrest, a thorough search was conducted, leading to the recovery of one locally made revolver rifle concealed in a sack.

Furthermore, on 20/07/2025 at about 1230hrs, one Auwalu Yusuf ‘m’, age 24 years, of Kofar Wambai, Kano State, was arrested, and a rifle was recovered in his possession.

A preliminary investigation suggests that an individual from Sabon Layi in Barikin Ladi, Plateau State, is involved in the illegal trade and distribution of arms, with potential links to criminal gangs operating within and beyond Jigawa State.

The suspects are currently in police custody undergoing discreet investigations.

Efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the syndicate and trace the source and intended recipients of the recovered weapons.

Similarly, police in Jigawa have recovered a stolen motor vehicle—a Kia Sorento with registration number GWL 225 BB—which was stolen by yet-to-be-identified miscreants at Gugungu Market in Taura LGA of Jigawa State.

The unfortunate incident occurred on 14/07/2025 at about 1100hrs, when the said vehicle was unlawfully taken by criminal elements who exploited the busy activities of the market area.

Upon receipt of the complaint, the Command immediately deployed a team of detectives from Gujungu Division’s Surveillance Unit, who swung into action and commenced a coordinated intelligence-driven operation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Dahiru, psc, fdc, commended the operatives for their swift action and reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property in the state. He further urged residents to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious activities, and take adequate precautions to secure their vehicles and other valuables, especially in crowded public places like markets and motor parks.

The Jigawa State Police Command remains resolute in its fight against criminality and assures members of the public of its unwavering dedication to creating a peaceful and secure environment for all.
