The Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad attached to Delta State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old girl who faked her kidnap in Asaba, the state capital.

The Police operatives also arrested her boyfriend, Prince Atigbi, after collecting a ransom of N2million.

The command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, who confirmed the arrest, said on January 2, 2025, the Police received a complaint from her mother, Mrs. Oliko Joy, that her daughter, Princess Okolie, left the house on December 30, 2024, and did not return home.

He said the next day, the parents received a call that the daughter had been kidnapped and they demanded a ransom of N2million.

Following the information received, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olufemi Abaniwonda immediately directed the command’s special Anti-kidnapping and cyber-crime squad to ensure that the victim was rescued unhurt while the suspect arrested.

“The commander special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad CSP Labe Joseph detailed operatives who embarked on an intelligence-led investigation which led to the arrest of the other suspect, Prince Atigbi,” Edafe said.

According to Edafe, upon the arrest of the suspect, he stated that he was not an actual kidnapper but was playing the script of his girlfriend Princess Okolie, and the girl concord, saying “she faked her kidnap so that they could get money from her parent”.

He said both suspects are in police custody while the ransom money has been recovered.

Meanwhile, the CP has urged parents and guardians to take the upbringing of their children seriously and in the ways of God and not be a problem to their parents and society.
