Police arrest nine suspects for drug-related offences, robbbery in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested nine suspects over drug-related offences and robberies of several residents in Fika and Damaturu Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

The command said the arrest of suspects are in line with its ongoing efforts to rid the State of criminal elements and ensure public safety, in the 17 LGAs in the state.

In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim disclosed; “The police command recorded significant breakthroughs in the fight against organized crime, youth hooliganism, drug trafficking, and substance abuse across the State.”

Abdulkarim further revealed: “On 29th May, 2026, at about 1740hrs, operatives attached to B Division, Damaturu, conducted a coordinated raid operation at Pompomari Kan Tudu, Damaturu. During the operation, two notorious suspected drug dealers were successfully apprehended.

He said the nabbed suspects were identified as Jibrin Mohammed,30, and Kashim Kyari,22, and are both residents of Pompomari community in Damaturu metropolis.of the state capital.

The SP added that exhibits recovered from the suspects include 26 sachets of Tramadol
23 sachets of Diazepam
two wraps/bibles of Arizona Cannabis.
Other recovered items included 34 wraps of local cannabis
-four stones of crystal methamphetamine
-a dagger measuring eleven inches
-a pair of scissor a cash amounting to the sum of ₦91,950.

He said the twin suspects and the recovered exhibits are currently under investigation with a view to prosecution upon completion of the investigation.

Similarly, on the same date at about 1500hrs, the Divisional Police Headquarters, Fika, received a distress call that groups of youths had invaded Ngalda Market, where they engaged in acts of intimidation, public disturbance, and robbery. Following the report, patrol teams were swiftly mobilised and dispatched to the scene, leading to the arrest of seven suspects.

Beyond the arrest of suspects, Abdulkarim added:”Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects allegedly grouped themselves and pursued some teenage girls without provocation, thereby causing panic among traders and residents.

“In the process, innocent traders fled the market while some goods were reportedly looted and vandalised using sticks and cutlasses.”

He said Investigation is ongoing to unravel the masterminds behind the attack and apprehend other fleeing accomplices connected to the intended mayhem.

The Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for youth hooliganism, drug trafficking, substance abuse, and all forms of criminality.

He further directed officers and men of the Command to remain dedicated, professional, and steadfast in their commitment toward ensuring peace and public safety across the State.
