The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested one Chibuzor Nworie in connection with an alleged armed robbery at Onuebonyi Junction in Abakaliki Local Council.
The arrest occurred in the early hours of yesterday following a distress call about a gang of thieves operating in the area, according to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu.
Ukandu explained that upon arriving at the scene, police operatives pursued the suspects, who attempted to flee. Nworie was apprehended, while other members of the gang escaped. A search of the suspect revealed a locally-made single-barrel pistol and a live cartridge.
“Following the pledge of the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Adaku Uche-Anya, not to give criminals breathing space, operatives of the command attached to the Central Police Station arrested one Chibuzor Nworie at Onuebonyi Junction, who was involved in armed robbery,” Ukandu said.
He further stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects. Nworie is currently in custody and will be arraigned after the investigation is concluded.
The commissioner has reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
