Police arrest suspected robbers, cattle rustlers in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna A. Yahaya, has recorded significant successes in its sustained crackdown on criminal elements threatening peace and security in the state.
The Command, in its ongoing effort to protect lives and property, said it has arrested several suspects involved in criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, armed robbery, theft, and animal rustling across different parts of the state.

According to the Command, on May 22, 2026, operatives of the State Intelligence Department arrested three suspects: Musa (alias Kala), 45, of Fateka Settlement; Manu Abdullahi, 30, of Mashin Bura Village, Malam Madori LGA; and Yusuf Ibrahim, 35, of Marke Village, Kaugama LGA.
The suspects were allegedly linked to a series of armed robbery operations within the Hadejia Emirate.

A fabricated AK-47 rifle was reportedly recovered from the premises of one of the suspects during a search.
Police said investigations are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate.

In another development on May 23, 2026, the Command foiled a kidnapping plot involving Adamu Gari, 55, of Zabo Kafi Village, Kafin Hausa LGA, and Abdullahi Adamu, 40, of Fatiske Village, Jama’are LGA in Bauchi State.
The suspects were arrested before the alleged abduction could be carried out, and are currently assisting investigators with useful information.

On the same day, operatives of the Gwaram Division arrested two suspects, Mustapha Badamasi, 30, of Innakawa Village, and Khalid Zubairu, 20, of Kofar Kuka, Gwaram LGA, in connection with the theft of two sheep.
The stolen animals and a Bajaj motorcycle allegedly used in the operation were recovered.

Similarly, on May 23, 2026, at about 5:24 a.m., police operatives in Taura Division arrested two suspected animal rustlers, Sulaiman Isa, 18, and Ibrahim Muhammad, 30, both of Yanyanga Settlement.
Four sheep were recovered during the operation, and the suspects have since been charged to court.

On May 26, 2026, operatives acting on credible intelligence arrested members of a suspected armed robbery gang that mounted an illegal roadblock along the Ringim–Chaichai Road.
One suspect was arrested at the scene, while two others were later apprehended during follow-up operations.

On May 27, 2026, police, working alongside vigilante groups, recovered a Boxer motorcycle earlier stolen from its owner. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects involved.
Similarly, on May 29, 2026, another Boxer motorcycle was recovered at Laraba Village in Dutse LGA after suspected criminals abandoned it and fled upon sighting security operatives.

Police said preliminary investigations suggest the motorcycle was intended for use in criminal activities.
Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna A. Yahaya, commended the operatives involved in the successful operations and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.

He also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing crime prevention and detection efforts.
The Command reiterated its resolve to rid Jigawa State of criminal elements and ensure a safer environment for all residents.
