The Ebonyi State Police Command has announced the arrest of two men linked to a viral video showing two teenage girls stripped, flogged, and humiliated.

The incident, which reportedly occurred in November 2023 in Ojiegbe Ngbo village, Ohaukwu Local Council, involved two girls aged 15 and 16, allegedly punished for stealing chickens.

Police Public Relations Officer DSP Joshua Ukandu confirmed the arrests in Abakaliki, stating that the command, upon reviewing the disturbing footage, resolved to apprehend those responsible.

He quoted the Commissioner of Police, Anthonia Uche-Anya, as saying that the arrests underscore the command’s stance against jungle justice and extrajudicial punishment.

“The CP is committed to ending such practices in Ebonyi, in collaboration with community stakeholders,” Ukandu said, warning that the perpetrators will face legal consequences.

In a related development, the command raised concerns over the recent killing of three women by their husbands, each following minor domestic disputes within two months.

On September 4, a middle-aged man allegedly killed his wife, Ugochi, in the Etim community after she intervened to stop him from disciplining their housemaid. The couple’s children, including nine-year-old twin boys, witnessed the incident.

Similar cases were reported on October 4 in Igweledoha, Ngbo Community, and on October 29 on Ogoja Road, Abakaliki, where men allegedly killed their wives during domestic altercations.

Ukandu confirmed the arrests of the suspects, who face charges of culpable homicide, wife battery, and child maltreatment.

The police vowed to pursue justice in each case, pending the conclusion of investigations.
