Police arrest woman over alleged minibus theft in Ogun

Police in Ogun State have arrested a 22-year-old woman, Afeez Khadijat, over the alleged theft and repainting of a minibus, popularly known as ‘korope’, along Ikhasi Road, Kajola, Omu-Ijebu.

The suspect was arrested on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m., following information that she and three other men, believed to be members of a gang, were seen repainting the vehicle in a bush along the road.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said detectives from the Omu-Ijebu Division acted on the information and stormed the location, where the suspect was apprehended while the other members fled.

He explained that the vehicle, originally suspected to be yellow, had been repainted in white and blue in an attempt to alter its identity.

Babaseyi said the bus, which bears a Lagos State registration number, was recovered and secured at the station.

He added that a search of the scene led to the recovery of three mobile phones, a power bank, a paint can, sandpaper, and a Type-C charging cord allegedly used by the suspects.

According to him, preliminary investigations indicated that the minibus was allegedly used for criminal activities in Lagos State, prompting the suspects to repaint it to conceal its identity and evade detection.

“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, and the case is under investigation. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.”

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism, assuring that all fleeing accomplices would be apprehended.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines.
