Police commence third-party insurance policy enforcement in Plateau
The Police Command in Plateau has commenced enforcement of the third-party motor vehicle insurance policy in the state.
Mr Alfred Alabo, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Jos.
Alabo said that the move was in accordance with the directive of Mr Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
NAN reports that the IGP had directed all police commands across the country to commence enforcement of the policy from Feb. 1.
“Acting on the directives of the IGP, Mr Emmanuel Adesina, the Commissioner of Police in Plateau, has directed all divisions to comply accordingly.
“Our men on patrol and stop search operations have since commenced enforcement of the directive.
“I cannot give an accurate number, but we have impounded vehicles of some violators.
“The owners of the vehicles have been charged to court and currently under prosecution,” he said.
Alabo explained that the move was not aimed at witch-hunting motorists but towards ensuring a safer and more secured motoring population in the state.
A correspondent of NAN, who monitored the enforcement in some parts of the state, reports that policemen at various checkpoints on the highways and major streets were conducting stop and search on both private and commercial vehicles.
