The Taraba State Police Command has initiated a high-level peace and reconciliation meeting to restore calm and promote lasting harmony in the Karim-Lamido Local Government Area (LGA).
The move, as noticed by The Guardian, comes a few days after the violent clashes between the Fulani and Bandawa communities in parts of the council.
The meeting, which was convened by the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel S. Bretet, on Thursday, brought together key stakeholders, including the council chairman, traditional leaders, and representatives of various cultural and religious groups.
The crisis, which affected Bandawa, Munga Doso, Nguroje Jabu, Wuro Guga, and nearby villages, prompted swift intervention by security agencies.
Sharing their personal experience of the violence, the community representatives expressed fears of possible retaliatory attacks.
They also praised the prompt response of law enforcement and appealed for continued support to prevent further escalation.
The commissioner, while addressing them, stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence and warned against inciting violence through hate speech and misinformation.
He reiterated the command’s resolve to uphold law and order and made it clear that any future acts of violence would be met with firm legal consequences.
Elated by the development, the council chairman lauded the efforts of the police and security forces in containing the unrest and called for continued dialogue and mutual cooperation among the communities.
