Police foil kidnap attempt by bandits, rescue 14 victims

The Katsina State Police Command said it has foiled an abduction attempt by bandits along the Katsina-Jibia road and rescued 14 victims in the process.
A spokesperson for the command, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, said the bandits had attacked two commercial vehicles and were intending to abduct the passengers for ransom.

Aliyu said the bandits shot and injured two of the passengers, one of whom later succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to the hospital.
“On November 24, 2024, at about 1955 hrs, suspected armed bandits, armed with dangerous weapons and shooting sporadically, attacked two commercial vehicles at Dan’arau village along Magama Jibia road in Jibia LGA, Katsina State, in an attempt to kidnap the occupants.
“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia led a team of operatives to the scene, engaging the bandits in a fierce gun duel, successfully foiling the kidnapping attempt and rescuing 14 victims.

“Two rescued victims suffered gunshot injuries and were rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention. Unfortunately, one victim succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects as the investigation proceeds.
“The CP, while commending the officers’ exceptional display of gallantry and dedication to duty, charged officers to sustain the tempo. He further urged members of the public with useful information on suspected criminal activities to report to the nearest police station promptly.”
