Police nab female VIO impersonator over N350,000 employment scam

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a woman, Face Samuel, a resident of Army Barracks Road in Yola-North Local Council, for impersonating a Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) and defrauding unsuspecting victims.

Spokesperson for the command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrest in a statement, disclosing that operatives attached to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (SCIID) apprehended the suspect following credible intelligence.

According to the statement, the suspect posed on multiple occasions as a VIO officer and defrauded four persons of N350,000 under the pretence of securing them employment with the Adamawa State Ministry of Transportation.

“The suspect has confessed to committing the crime, while also revealing that the VIO uniform used in the fraudulent act was given to her by a yet-to-be-identified person,” the statement read.

Nguroje further quoted the Commissioner of Police, Mr Dankombo Morris, as urging members of the public to report individuals of such character to the nearest security agency.

Morris also assured that a diligent investigation was underway to uncover other possible victims and identify any collaborators involved in the crime.
