Police nab suspect, guard over vandalism, theft of electrical cables

Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested two suspects for allegedly vandalising electrical installations at the Igbotako General Hospital, Okitipupa Local Council Area of Ondo State.

The suspects identified as Promise Godspower and Pogbara Sigalo were also accused of carting away electrical cables from the medical facility.

While confirming the incident, the police public relations officer of the command, Abayomi Jimoh, stated that Sigalo, who was the security personnel guarding the facility, was arrested over suspected connivance with Godspower.

According to Jimoh, the whereabouts of Sigalo became suspicious when Godspower operated in the facility all through without hindrance.

The police spokesperson stressed that the criminal act perpetrated by the suspects caused serious damage to critical government infrastructure meant for public service delivery.

“The Ondo State Police Command under the leadership of CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, has recorded another significant operational breakthrough in its sustained efforts to protect public infrastructure and combat criminal activities across the state, following the arrest of suspected vandals involved in the theft and destruction of government property at the General Hospital, Igbotako.

‘The incident was reported by a concerned citizen, who informed the police that one Promise Godspower ‘m’ unlawfully gained access into the hospital premises and vandalised electrical installations within the facility before carting away electrical cables.

Upon receipt of the report, detectives were immediately mobilised to the scene where a comprehensive preliminary investigation was conducted. Necessary evidential materials, including photographic documentation of the damaged installations, were also obtained.

“The operatives equally recovered the stolen electrical cables while the investigation has been intensified to determine whether other accomplices were involved in the act.

“The Commissioner of Police further frowned at the negligent conduct of the security personnel, emphasising that acts of dereliction of duty pose grave threats to public safety and the protection of government assets. The CP reiterated that all individuals entrusted with security responsibilities must remain vigilant, disciplined, and committed to the highest standards of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

“He further assured members of the public that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigation in accordance with the law.

“The Command uses this medium to warn individuals against engaging in vandalism, theft and destruction of public property, stressing that such criminal acts will be met with decisive legal action. Members of the public are equally encouraged to remain security conscious and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or other security agencies.”
