Police neutralise notorious kidnapper in Rivers

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have neutralised a suspected kidnapper and murderer, David Uzoma Kamalu, also known as M-Kaze, during a raid on a criminal hideout in Rumuodogu 1 Community, Emohua Local Council.

The command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this in a statement yesterday, noting that the operation, carried out on May 25, 2025, was the result of days of intensive intelligence gathering.

According to Iringe-Koko, the police team encountered armed resistance from the gang members, resulting in a gun battle. During the engagement, M-Kaze was neutralised, while other gang members fled with gunshot wounds.

A search of the hideout reportedly uncovered a pump-action shotgun, two live cartridges, and various charms believed to be used for protection and intimidation.

“M-Kaze was a high-value target with a notorious reputation for orchestrating heinous crimes against innocent citizens,” Iringe-Koko stated. She revealed that the suspect had been wanted for multiple offences, including the gruesome murder and beheading of a local security operative, Mr Alete, in January 2025, as well as high-profile kidnappings and armed robberies along the East-West Road corridor.

“Investigation is currently ongoing, and efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing gang members. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals with gunshot wounds to the nearest security agency,” she added.
