Police probe death of 14-year-old girl allegedly assaulted by mother, pastor in C’River

The Cross River State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a 14-year-old girl, Nancy Peter, following an alleged assault involving her mother and a pastor in Wula Community, Boki Local Council of the state.

According to an incident report released by the command, preliminary findings indicate that the victim was allegedly beaten by her mother, Mrs Agnes Peter, 45, over allegations of theft.

Police said the mother subsequently took the teenager to Pastor Samson Roman Dago, 43, who also allegedly subjected the minor to corporal punishment with a cane .

The command stated that the victim later became unconscious and was rushed to a medical facility in Wula Community for treatment, where she was confirmed dead by medical personnel.

The police said a thorough investigation had commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the extent of involvement of all persons connected to the case.

“Appropriate legal action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation,” the report stated.

The command also said it was aware of reports alleging that the minor was sexually assaulted. However, police said investigations had not established any evidence to substantiate the claims.

The police assured the public that the investigation would be comprehensive and that anyone found culpable would face the law.
