The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a certain Obikoya Adewale, who allegedly hanged himself in the Molode area of Sabo in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
In a viral video, the lifeless body was seen hanging from the roof of a house following the incident over the weekend, with the voices captured in the video saying the deceased was not a resident of the house but was believed to have come to the apartment to commit suicide.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said an investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death.
According to him, information at about 8:40 p.m. on Saturday revealed that Adewale, an adult male of the Sabo area in Ijebu Ode, “was found dead in circumstances suspected to be suicide.
“Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer, accompanied by his team, visited the scene. Necessary documentation was carried out and photographs taken, in line with standard procedure.
“The body was preserved for further examination, while investigations have commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.”
Meanwhile, Babaseyi urged residents to prioritise their health, especially mental health. He reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and promoting community wellbeing, and urged anyone with concerns about a loved one to reach out early and get support.
