The Rivers State Police Command said it successfully rescued four individuals who were abducted from a God is Good Motors (GIGM) bus travelling from Abuja to Port Harcourt.
A spokesperson for the Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the development in a telephone interview with The Guardian yesterday, assuring the public that efforts to apprehend the kidnappers have been intensified.
SP Iringe-Koko said the police responded swiftly upon learning of the kidnapping, deploying tactical teams to secure the release of the victims.
“We are aware of the incident, and our Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Bala Mustapha, immediately deployed his tactical teams to ensure the release of the victims,” she said.
As of the latest update, four of the abducted passengers have been freed, and the police are working tirelessly to secure the release of any remaining captives.
“As I speak to you, four of the victims have been released,” SP Iringe-Koko confirmed.
“The CP has launched a manhunt to arrest the perpetrators of this crime and for the remaining victims to regain their freedom and reunite with their families,” she added.
The Rivers State Police Command reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring their safety and security, stressing its dedication to crime prevention and protecting lives and property.
Following the distressing Friday, October 11 incident where passengers travelling from Utako to Port Harcourt were kidnapped, the company has since issued a statement assuring its commitment to the safe return of those affected.
GIG Motors expressed deep concern for the abducted passengers and their families, stressing that their safety and well-being are paramount. The company confirmed that it has been in contact with the families of the abducted passengers, providing updates and support during this difficult time.
Contrary to some reports, GIG Motors clarified that it had been actively cooperating with the Nigerian Police Force and other relevant authorities since the incident occurred.
The company stated that its driver, along with a female passenger and her baby, were released by the kidnappers. The driver immediately reported the incident to the anti-kidnapping unit in Port Harcourt and is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
GIG Motors acknowledged the challenging and emotional nature of the situation and urged the public to rely on verified information.
The company stressed its commitment to working closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure the safe return of all abducted passengers.
The statement reiterated GIG Motors’ dedication to passenger safety and its determination to bring everyone home safely. The company noted that its passengers are considered family and that it stands firm in its commitment to their well-being.
