Police rescue kidnap victims, kill bandits, arrest nine in major operation

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the rescue of two kidnap victims, the arrest of nine suspects, and the recovery of firearms and stolen vehicles in a series of coordinated operations across multiple states.

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the operations, conducted by various commands, reflect the agency’s focus on intelligence-led and proactive policing efforts.

In Benue State, operatives acting on intelligence engaged a group of suspected bandits in a shootout near the Tse-Gondo area of Sankera on May 3.

Three suspects sustained fatal injuries during the encounter. Two locally fabricated guns and live cartridges were recovered from the scene. The suspects were reportedly planning attacks on security formations in the region.

In Delta State, the CP Special Assignment team arrested a suspected serial car thief, Henry Okpor, in possession of a pump-action gun and two vehicles believed to have been stolen.

Two other suspects, Mudiaga Okparume and Arinze Humble, were also apprehended. Both are identified as members of the Vikings confraternity, and officers recovered two Beretta pistols and five live rounds during the arrest on April 25.

On April 26, Delta police operatives responded to the kidnapping of two persons in Agbarho. The victims were traced to Uvwiama forest in Ughelli North Local Government Area, where they were rescued. Nine suspects were taken into custody in connection with the abduction, and officers recovered seven firearms and thirteen rounds of ammunition.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun commended the officers involved in the operations and called on all personnel to sustain efforts against violent crimes. He also reiterated the Force’s commitment to public safety and effective justice delivery.

All arrested individuals will face prosecution after the conclusion of investigations.
