
Three policemen last Tuesday again beat a student of the Kwara State University (KWASU,) to death.
The alleged policemen have been arrested and remanded by the police command.
The beating and eventual killing of Suleiman Olayinka is barely four months after police officers beat and shot a student of the State Polytechnic student to death.
The spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Ejire Adeyemi Toun, confirmed this in a statement on Friday.
According to the investigation, the late Suleiman Olayinka was killed last Tuesday around 2:00 pm. at the Tanke area in Ilorin, the state capital.
“He was accosted by three policemen just as he was disembarking from a commercial motorcycle, the three policemen pulled him down then they started forcing him away,” an eyewitness told newsmen.
Another eyewitness said that the deceased came to collect N1,000 he had already transferred to a Point on Sale (POS) operator, to settle the rider who brought him.
“I was with him, as soon as he got the money, the officers came out of a tricycle and dragged him to the ground. The victim kept asking what was his offence but they didn’t let him speak,” the source said.
The witness explained that the victim pleaded with the officers, informing them that he was asthmatic, which they ignored.
However, a reaction on Friday, by the police spokesperson said, “The Kwara State police command is aware of this unfortunate incident which led to the sudden death of Suleiman Olayinka (M) 27yrs.
“A complaint of cheating and criminal breach of trust was reported against the deceased. Police detectives were immediately detailed to investigate the case.
“Meanwhile the officers involved in the incident have been identified, arrested, and detained for further investigations as regards the death of the suspect.
“Further updates will be provided promptly as investigations unfold.”
